There are a lot of benefits of a second photographer. The first is there being a wider variety of images captured throughout the day, creating even better coverage of the day.
Having someone working with me on a wedding day also allows them to photograph the safe shots that every couple expects to get and frees me up to be more creative, move a little more freely and seek out opportunities for images that I may not always choose to do when on my own. Getting those extra angles and being in two places at once.
If you’re having a big wedding or even just a big bridal party it’s also a great idea for those situations. It’s so much easier to organise group photos with two photographers. Time saving during the portraits is also another big advantage. One photographer can focus a bit more on the bridal party whilst the other can give more time to the newlyweds.
Having shot so many weddings myself over the last 4 years, it’s obvious just how fast wedding days can go by too. Sometimes if you have a tightly planned schedule, it doesn’t leave a whole lot of room for error. Having a two photographers high fiving around the place is great in those situations. It’s like the back up plan you never realise you had. Often I can be running a little late into the reception after taking all the family photos and bridal photos and I won’t get a chance to get photos of the details in the venue before everyone arrives.
I have 3 Photographers that I turn to when needing a second photographer. Finding people who share similar values to me and a similar style in shooting has taken time but I’m proud of the people that can now compliment my own shooting style and the vibe that I work so very hard at bringing to each and every one of the weddings I’m so honoured to attend!
