Let me begin by urging you to reconsider. In my experience, even after my own wedding day, physical printing is the key to remembering and travelling back through time to the feelings of how you felt whilst being photographed. Have you ever flicked through your parents or maybe even your grandparents photos? There’s something so unique about turning those special pages. It’s a really incredible tactile experience. You just can’t do that with a USB. If you’re not planning to invest in physical, tangible, beautifully hand crafted set of prints to look back on and cherish, I’m maybe not the photographer for you.
What are you crazy Alex? Hear me out here. I encourage people to have a number of ways to remember and reference how enjoyable and memorable their wedding day was. It’s such a good comforting feeling knowing that you can relive things for many years into the future. Video is a really important part of that puzzle and if you’re on the fence between myself and an awesome videographer, I’d actually encourage you to pick them. Why though? SOUND. One of my mentors once said “Alex, you can remind them of how they felt, but video will help them return to what it was that caused them to feel that way.” Be energised and encouraged by this in your decision making!
Seeking, chasing and encouraging natural human connection is what I’m all about. Focusing my attention on shooting couples in stiff and emotionless photos just doesn’t light my soul up at all. I love the feels and good vibes! Seeing how your tough Dad’s eyes well up with emotion, or your Grandma telling the boys to pull their pants up on the dancefloor, or the intimate embrace with your new spouse that feels like your the only two people in the world. These are the times worth remembering. Structure is great but real is better.
It doesn’t have to be a big fence hehe. Let me explain 🙂 I’m a very go-with-the-flow kind of person and I love working with people of a similar mindset. I love adventuring through nature, climbing rocks, trekking through forests and fields. It does take a little bit of extra effort and sometimes there may be a fence in-between Us and some incredible light in a beautiful location at a time when we don’t have a lot of time because the light is fading…we’re going over that fence. If there’s some crazy sun and we can kick up some dust with a car, we’ll do it. Whatever the obstacle, there’s always a way to adapt and make something creative and special from it. Not up for that to get an amazing unique eye popping shot? Probably not your guy.
Budgets are of course really important. With everything going on in the world, I think they’re more important than ever and you should consider yours as part of your decision making when you’re planning your wedding day. I did too for my wedding. The money and cost wasn’t however, the deal breaker for us when Laura and I chose our photographer. If you’re in this position of cost being a deal breaker when choosing your photographer, let me kindly tell you, your focus is off of what really matters. Consider a photographers, style, passion, focus, talent, personality and if you connect with them! These things are far more important to consider when crunching numbers on your spreadsheet. So you’ve said yes to all those things? Well then the investment you make in that photographers service is worth it’s weight in gold. You’re going to spend more time with them than anyone else, even more than the person you’re marrying! They’ll experience the day with you and you’ve done your homework in choosing someone who will add to the overall experience of your day. Well done! If you don’t connect with any of these points, maybe you can dig a little deeper and think about what you value in a photographer.
